Software Buyers Shape the Animation Market in Dublin

The concentration of technology companies running international operations from the city has bent local demand in a particular direction. A large share of what gets commissioned is product explanation: onboarding sequences, feature announcements, interface walkthroughs, sales enablement pieces and conference films, usually needed in several languages and usually out of date within a year. Alongside that sits a genuine tradition of character and story work, which is a different craft with different people.

Knowing which of the two you are buying is the first decision. A studio that excels at warm illustrated storytelling is not automatically the right choice for a precise interface animation, and a motion design shop that produces immaculate product sequences may be flat when asked for a character with personality. Say which one you want in the brief instead of describing the outcome and letting each candidate guess.

Rebuilt Interface or Screen Capture: Decide Before Anyone Quotes

Product animation splits into two approaches and the cost difference is significant. Recorded screen capture, cleaned up and paced, is quick and always truthful but limited by what the software can currently do. A rebuilt interface, animated as vector layers, lets you show a flow that does not exist yet, slow down a moment that happens too fast, and keep the piece stable when the product ships a redesign.

Rebuilt work costs more and creates an obligation, because a rebuilt interface has to be maintained or it starts lying to customers. Ask candidates to quote both routes for the same scope. The comparison usually settles the argument faster than a discussion about craft, and it forces a conversation about how long the piece is expected to live.

Version One Will Not Be the Last Version

Product animation ages faster than anything else a marketing team commissions, and a piece that cannot be edited becomes a piece that gets rebuilt. Commission for revision from the start: text on its own layers, interface elements as components rather than baked frames, voice recorded so that a single line can be replaced without re recording the track, and a shot structure that allows an insert without a full re render.

Ask what a minor update will cost in a year and get the number in writing. Ask too whether you receive editable projects, templates, fonts with their licences and audio stems, because the answer determines whether a future edit is a small job or a renegotiation. This is a better predictor of total cost than the headline quote.

Localisation Is a Build Decision, Not a Post Step

Most pieces made here ship in several languages, and the languages behave differently. German runs long, French runs long, and text that fits neatly in English overflows a carefully composed frame. Voice timing changes, so any animation cued to a word appearing has to be retimed rather than replaced.

Design for it at layout: generous safe areas, text on separate layers, timing that can flex, and captions treated as a first class deliverable because a large share of the audience watches silently. Confirm who reviews the recorded take in each language, since a native reviewer signing off the performance rather than only the script is the difference between a version that sounds local and one that sounds dubbed.

Who Signs Off, and How Long That Really Takes

The approval chain in an international operation is the schedule. Local marketing, a regional lead, brand, sometimes legal, sometimes a product team that changes the feature you are describing halfway through. Each named approver is a potential week, and they rarely run in parallel.

Map the chain before you agree a delivery date and put the names into the plan. Agree your own response window at each stage as well, in writing, because a Dublin studio holding a booked animator idle while it waits for feedback will recover that cost somewhere. Also ask what happens if the product changes during production, since with software that is a probability rather than a risk.

Comparing Dublin Studios Without Relying on Showreels

Every candidate should get the same document: craft, approach, runtime, shot count, style reference, language list, review rounds and response windows, handover list, usage term and delivery date. Then compare the questions rather than the reels, because a reel shows what a team was paid to make once, under an approval process you know nothing about.

Better still, pay two candidates to produce one contained sequence from the real job, run through the process you intend to use. You learn how they read a brief and whether the second version improves on the first, which no portfolio can tell you.

When the Job Crosses Into Other Disciplines

Keep the pricing separate rather than accepting a bundle. App developers matter when the animation ships inside a product rather than beside it, campaign teams when the film is one asset in a wider plan, social specialists for platform native cut downs, and communications agencies when the piece exists to support an announcement.

If the craft you need is thin locally or the budget will not stretch, running the same brief past London or Manchester calibrates the price quickly. Verified profiles, portfolios and client feedback for animation studios are in the wider directory, and you can send one scope to a shortlist so every proposal answers the same question.
