Best 15+ Social Media Agencies in Vancouver

Vancouver holds more social media suppliers than a search result shows

Demand for this service here is unusually high, and so is supply. The visible layer is a few dozen firms with strong sites and active accounts of their own. Underneath sits a much larger group: production studios that took on channel management, freelance strategists working with a fixed group of editors, in house teams that moonlight, and firms whose real business is serving clients elsewhere while living here.

That depth is good news and it makes the shortlist harder, because the differences between candidates are not visible from the outside. Decide which part of your social media you are hiring for before you compare: craft, media buying skill, or simply capacity to keep things moving. Those are three different purchases and the supplier directory is easier to work through once you have picked one.

Craft, media or hours: name the purchase

Hiring for craft means you want a voice, a look and ideas you would not have had. You are buying senior time and you should expect to pay for it and to use it. Hiring for media means you want spend managed well, and the questions are about account structure, testing, incrementality and what the team does when performance decays.

Hiring for hours is the most common and the least discussed. Plenty of companies have the ideas and lack the person to execute them consistently. That is a legitimate purchase, it should be priced as delivery rather than as strategy, and paying boutique rates for it is how social media budgets get wasted quietly.

Privacy and messaging rules that should be read before the campaign

Consent rules around social media campaigns here are stricter than many incoming brands expect, particularly around commercial electronic messages, contests and the collection of personal information through lead forms. A campaign built on a list gathered without proper consent is a compliance problem rather than a marketing one, and the exposure sits with the advertiser rather than with the agency that suggested it.

Ask candidates how they handle consent in lead generation forms, what their contest rules process looks like, and who drafts the terms. Ask also about data residency if your sector has requirements, since some public and health related organisations do. An agency that has never been asked these questions will tell you so in the way it answers.

Audiences do not stop at the border, and targeting should

Many brands here sell across the border, and platform targeting will happily spend your budget on the larger market next door because that is where the cheaper impressions are. Sometimes that is exactly right. Often it is an unmanaged leak that makes the reporting look fine while local enquiries stay flat.

Agree geography explicitly in the media plan, ask to see how it is enforced in the account, and ask for results split by region in every social media report. If you genuinely sell into both markets, ask for separate creative rather than one set that works in neither, and expect the pricing conversation to reflect currency and delivery cost differences.

Creator partnerships and disclosure

The creator community feeding social media here is large, in part because of the film and technology industries, and partnership rates vary enormously for similar audience sizes. Verify audience composition before agreeing a fee, and be sceptical of accounts whose following is concentrated outside your selling area.

Disclosure has to be clear and it has to be the creator's own words as well as a tag. Put the usage rights in writing, separating organic reshare from paid amplification, with a term and a territory. Decide who holds the contract, and ask what happens to live ads if the relationship ends mid flight.

Fee structures and what each one rewards

Retainers suit continuous social media publishing and community management and should specify hours by discipline. Review the deliverable list quarterly or it will quietly outlive its usefulness.

Project fees suit launches and production sprints and keep the boundary honest. Percentage of spend suits large media budgets and aligns the agency with growth in spending rather than efficiency, so pair it with a measure you both accept. Hybrid arrangements with a base fee plus a performance element can work, provided the performance measure is something the agency genuinely controls.

Ask what sits outside the fee: production, stock and music, tools, boosted post budget, creator fees and out of hours response are the usual exclusions.

Access, ownership and leaving well

The social media business manager, ad accounts, pixels, catalogues and creator agreements belong in entities your company controls, with the agency granted partner access. Agencies here will often set accounts up in their own manager because it is faster, and unwinding that later is an administrative chore at exactly the wrong moment.

Ask for raw production files on a schedule, keep a rights register for licensed material, and agree the exit in the contract: notice period, handover pack with playbooks, audience definitions and reporting history, and a named rate for transition support.

Turning a long list into a decision

Send an identical brief to no more than four suppliers and require the reply in your structure: social media strategy, production by format and volume, community hours, paid management, reporting. Ask each to price one quarter and to name the assumption that would most change the number.

If the plan leans on animation or motion design, compare motion specialists against agencies quoting for it internally. If search demand is part of the same problem, keep search work in its own conversation. When the brief is ready, request proposals from several agencies at once and compare the reasoning rather than the presentation.
