Best 15+ Digital Marketing and Advertising Agencies in Brighton

Brighton holds more digital marketing suppliers than its size suggests

For a city this compact the supplier pool is unusually deep, and it is weighted towards small firms rather than large ones. A great many practitioners moved here from bigger agency jobs and set up on their own, which means you can hire senior craft at close to independent rates. It also means the median supplier is a handful of people rather than a department, and that changes almost every question you should be asking of a digital marketing supplier.

The advantage is real. The person who pitches is usually the person who does the work, decisions happen in a day, and nobody is funding a floor of account managers out of your retainer. The exposure is equally real, and it is worth naming before you sign anything.

Buying from a team of four without inheriting key person risk

Ask who covers your account during holiday, illness and the week a bigger client has a crisis. Ask how many digital marketing accounts the lead practitioner personally runs. Ask what happens to your campaigns if that one person is unavailable for a fortnight during your busiest trading period.

Good small firms have answers ready because they have been asked before: a named second, a documented account, a partner firm they trade cover with. Weak ones treat the question as an insult. The answer tells you more about whether the relationship will hold than any portfolio will.

Associate networks are common here, and worth understanding

Many suppliers in this market operate as a small core with a rotating bench of associates: a paid media freelancer, a designer, a developer, a writer. Presented honestly this is a strength, because you are paying for the specialist you need rather than the agency you were sold.

Presented dishonestly it becomes a coordination problem you did not agree to buy. Ask which parts of the work are done in house and which go to associates, whether the same associates stay on your account, and who is accountable when a handover between them goes wrong. Contracts should name the accountable party, not the collective.

A trading year with peaks changes how the budget is paced

Visitor economy businesses here live with a compressed season, conference traffic that arrives in blocks, and long quiet months in between. Spending an equal amount every month is the default in most proposals and it is usually wrong for these businesses.

Build the shape of your year into the brief. Say when demand arrives, when you need to be visible in advance of it, and when the sensible move is to spend almost nothing. A digital marketing plan that concentrates budget ahead of a peak and holds cash through the trough will beat a flat plan with the same total, and a supplier who does not ask about your season has not understood the account.

Splitting money between rented attention and assets you keep

This is the allocation argument worth having early. Paid channels rent attention and stop the moment the card is declined. Search visibility, email lists, product content and a website that converts are assets that keep working. Almost every small business here is under invested on the second and over reliant on the first, usually because paid results are legible within a week.

A credible digital marketing proposal will tell you which of the two your business needs more and why, and will accept a smaller fee now if the honest answer is to fix something else first. If the diagnosis points at organic visibility rather than distribution, compare search specialists before committing to a broad retainer.

Contracts for a small supplier, written so either side can leave

Keep the first commitment short. A quarter is long enough to produce evidence and short enough that a mismatch is survivable. Notice periods beyond a month are hard to justify for digital marketing work at this scale and tend to be a sign the supplier is managing cash flow rather than your account.

Write down ownership plainly. Ad accounts, analytics, tag containers, domain and hosting sit in your name with the supplier added as a user. Ask for source files rather than exports, and get licensing for fonts, stock and music in writing. Small firms are not less trustworthy than large ones, but they are more likely to be using tools registered to a personal account, and untangling that later is tedious.

Running the digital marketing comparison in Brighton

Send the same brief to several firms and ask for the same shape of reply: what they would do in the first quarter, what they would deliberately not do, what the minimum viable budget is, and what they would cut first if you halved it. Require the name of the person who will actually do the work.

Then check the claims. Ask for a client you can speak to who has been with them longer than a year, which is the hardest reference to fake and the most informative one to get. If the website is the constraint rather than the traffic, the technical firms in the same city are the better first call. When the brief is ready, put it in front of several agencies at once, or widen the field first through the full list of suppliers.
